Description

Portrait of Jay Zimmerman

The character 忍, the “nin” of ninja, consists of two parts. The top is the edge of a blade, set over the heart. It means to endure, or persevere, because of the pressure of the blade to the heart, the duality of rough and smooth, this is all part of polishing the spirit. The times that you don’t want to come to the dojo, Jay explains, are the times that you need to come the most, because the area of conflict is the place where you have the opportunity to build endurance and perseverance.
